The Lake Anna Larks is a team of Virginia Master Naturalists from Fredericksburg started by Trudy Witt, who was not able to join us this year. Karen Dolvin, Donna Finnegan, Marty Wright and Linda Chaney (Fredericksburg Bird Club) reprised the winning Piedmont Larks efforts with a goal of finding as many species as possible near our home and at Lake Anna State Park.. Despite a midday deluge of rain that had us scurry for cover for an hour, we identified 49 species, found two of our namesake Meadowlarks, and had a FUN day of “civilized” birding. (That is we started on the deck at 7:30 with coffee, muffins and local strawberries.)
Our favorite birds of the day were Rose-breasted Grosbeak, which has been at the feeders for a week, Red-headed Woodpecker, which our lucky neighbors have in their yard, and Black and White Warbler at LASP in the same location as we found it last year!
